Your Winning Life: Success Challenge
Introduction
“Do you realize that some people think they are better than you?”
“Are you not yet tired of being wrongly judged, overlooked, and not considered?”
“Do you like being trampled on as a doormat?”
No one is better than you. We are all created equal. No one is made of better “stuff”. They do not have the right to look down their noses as if they are somehow enthroned above you.
As you read through this challenge, I want you to keep in the front of your mind every time someone has belittled you. I want you to recall every time you walked away from a situation heartbroken because someone made you feel less than worthy.
I want you to think of that jerk that you went to school with, or currently work with, that walks around as if they are better than you. As if their people, their crowd, their family, their “stuff” is better than you and yours. Let that fire up your pilot light of success. Let that drive you. When you wake up in the morning and feel like you don’t want to put in the extra work today… that you don’t “feel” like making progress. Think of that pompous punk that laughs behind your back and calls you lazy. They don’t believe that you will ever put it in gear, or put in the work, or stand your ground. I want those thoughts to motivate you like you have never been motivated before. I want them to drive you to get up and move. To push you towards success. I want to infuse in you a continual push that drives you every day, towards being the BEST version of YOU.
You have more in you than you are showing. You have more in you than you are tapping into. You have talents that you are not using. You have potential that is not being grown to maturity. This course is designed to give you a spirit and will to succeed. And to give you the tools and methods that will guide you, and help you along the way.
Now let’s go!
Chapter 1: Quick Start Section
Just in case this is the only time you ever pick up this writing, and for whatever reason never find your way back here again. I wanted to include a quick start or cheat sheet section that includes just a few key points that can help you right away no matter how much more of this book you finally read.
Schedule Dedicated Personal Time
Maybe all you can spare away from the family or work is just 30 minutes a week, or maybe an hour. But whatever you can consistently dedicate to personal time for yourself. Schedule this as a reminder. It could be as simple as “go sit on the porch for an hour” each Thursday evening at 7pm while the wife takes her nightly bath and gets ready for bed, or when the husband is feeding the animals. Maybe it is 6am on Saturday mornings. Whatever it is, schedule it and take the time to be alone, undistracted every week. Again, with no distractions. No radio, no social media, no text messages. Just you and your thoughts and prayers. Be consistent with this time and see how it changes your life.
Visualize Your Life Goals
Today, tomorrow, or sometime in the next few days find an hour of time to spend alone, without distraction as mentioned above (put your cell phone on do not disturb and stick it in a drawer on the other side of the room if you need to). For the next hour or so, sit silently and let your mind wander about what you want out of life.
What do you want to achieve before your time is up?
What makes you feel fulfilled? What do you want people to remember about you?
What impact do you want to have on others… on the world… in your family? What are your dreams?
After you stir these thoughts up, settle in on the number 1 and number 2 point that keeps coming back to you, then write them down. Write these thoughts / goals down on paper and put them somewhere where you will see them again. i.e., stick them on the refrigerator, use a dry erase marker and write them on the bathroom mirror, the back of a business card that stays in your wallet near your license or credit card. You get the idea.
Somewhere you will see the notes again and be prompted to think about them again and again.
Ask yourself, “What would it take?”
Think about those top life goals you wrote down. What would it take to make them reality? If you had to write down 5-10 steps or actions that you would need to take to get there, what would they be? Write these steps down and ponder them during your scheduled personal time (side note: personal time doesn’t need to be only when you have “scheduled” it)
Focus On the Positive
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good report, if there is any excellence and if anything is worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
Life is full of challenges and stress. Most of us have high paced lives, challenges from the past, bills that need to be paid, family members in need, etc., etc., etc.
With all the challenges of life it can be easy to only dwell on the stress and struggles. But, it is so important to intentionally focus on the good. The lovely. The beauty in the world. When we do, it lightens our load, it blows a new wind into our life sails. And if we intentionally and continually (as much as possible) look to the good in the world the waters that flow from our rivers become alive and give life to those around us. I heard a minister say in his younger years he was always wanting some one to speak a blessing or a word of encouragement over him. He said he went from service to service searching for these encouraging words, but they weren’t coming. Finally, he decided to start encouraging others and it changed his entire life.
When we focus on the good, lovely, and positive in the world our batteries charge up and we can begin encouraging others. Intentionally be the better, bigger, positive person. Let your faith be bigger than your fear.
Stop and Smell the Roses
This is a saying I have heard my entire life. It is very easy to understand. It simply means to make time to enjoy life. Simple things like the sweet scent of a flower. Or watching the leaves float in a gentle breeze. Or sitting on the porch just to watch it rain.
This is so easy to understand. But I admit sometimes it is the hardest thing to do. We are easily “always too busy”. When your child comes up in the middle of a busy moment and wants to ask a question or show you a page, they have just colored in their little coloring book, put everything else on hold and give that moment to them. Life is in the moment. The past is the tomb of time, the future is the womb of time, but we are only truly alive in the moment. Make the most of the moment as often as possible.
THE PURPOSE OF THE CHALLENGE
The purpose of this challenge course is to equip and empower you for success. At the end of the challenge, you will be better equipped to set goals and, more importantly, achieve them. A side benefit and quality that I really want to give you, is a small touch of salt in your spirit. Just enough to awaken a drive in you that will move you to greatness. We will start this process by a bit of rewiring our minds…
“as a person thinks in their heart, so are they…”
In other words, the way we think often determines the path of our lives. The goal of this challenge is to Inform, Enlighten, Equip, and Progress YOU towards your best version of yourself and towards your success!
To do this you must first change how you think. How you think about possibility. How you think about your personal worth. How you think about accomplishment and goal setting. That is the main objective.
This will be accomplished by giving you the information that you need, to bring forth the awareness and ‘enlightenment’ necessary to break the boundaries and lifestyle hindrances that have been holding you back. I will share a lot of information and personal testimony to ‘help’ in the thinking portion. At the end of the challenge, I will only be happy if the course of your life has truly changed. Changed in the way you see possibility. The way you plan for success. The way you break down obstacles. The way you track achievements. The way you celebrate winning. The way you think. The way you live.
